Status Report!

I am currently writing chapter 7, an entirely new chapter that I had to insert between existing chapters, which will push me out to 10 chapters as it currently stands. Chapters 8 and 9 are already written, though not yet revised. 10 has been begun, but far from complete. Apart from revisions and editing, all that is left to do is write chapter 7 and complete chapter 10, and if no unforseen scenes come up, the first book will be complete!

So, what is this new chapter about? In chapter 6, Ásbjorn will embark on his journey into Jötunheimr, and there will encounter the spawn of Fenrir in the Iron Wood. The chapter leaves off on a cliffhanger, but in chapter 7, we return to our dark elves in the dark, cursed forest. It is in this chapter that he will meet Angrboða, Queen of the Iron Wood, the vile sorceress who created Seiðr and thus brought evil into the worlds. In the past, she was known as Gullveig. After the Aesir discovered her evil deeds, they condemned her to death. She is Thrice Burnt and Thrice Born oft and again.

Just wait until you see how I will describe her! My notes are made. Now I need only to write the scene. Angrboða will be a thing of nightmares!

Update (January 17, 2018):

As of yesterday, chapter 7 came in at just under 1500 words, but after an entire morning that was intended to be used for writing got squandered by me goofing off, and only a short time spent writing this afternoon, I have miraculously *snort* brought that word count up to a whopping 1651! 😂

Gods, I’m hopeless! I’ve really got to work on my procrastination issues!

First off, who am I? My name is Jessica Urquhart. Writing has always been a hobby of mine, which got its start in middle and highschool, when I'd write short stories for the amusement of my friends and classmates. Currently, I'm working on my first book, my one true love of a story I've been saying I would one day write. Well, that day has come. If you'd care to follow my musings on the adventures and hurdles of writing my first fantasy book, then please, read my blog.

    1. I hope it will be. It’s a challenge to make anything seem scary nowadays, with such an overload of horror films and stories of monsters and demons, that for me personally, it can be quite desensitising. Also, I want to keep as close as possible to the lore, though, due to insufficient physical descriptions, I will have to use a bit of creative license.

    1. First, I need to get chapter 5 posted. Actually, I’m considering not posting anymore chapters, but instead just ask for a few volunteers to be beta readers. I can do that over WordPress by posting the chapters as password protected, or by sharing the documents after the book is complete.

    1. Thanks! It will be such a relief to finally finish! So many years have been leading up to this, and it has been about a year and a half of steady writing.

  1. I am in awe. You know I volunteer to read. You just have to put up with my comments which I seem to have a bunch of; probably because I am deeply fascinated with your book. Congrats! What an achievement.
