Do I really have to write today? Can’t I just sleep or do something else?
This is the first time since last week that I’ve had time to write, and I’m really struggling to motivate myself. Attempts at procrastination have included reviewing earlier chapters and looking for ways to improve. But it’s the work I’ve done on chapter five that I really need to concentrate on. This also happens to be an extremely challenging part of the story to write. It’s a total change in scenery. Literally, another world entirely! Stepping out of the ancient realms of elves, dark elves, and dwarves and into our own modern world, requires a shift in tone. These new characters need a voice that is distinctively different from those characters of the otherworld.
I won’t need to stay on earth long, fortunately. Just long enough to see a breech between the realms occur. Then we will return to the more enjoyable land of the dark elves!
I have the story in my mind; I just don’t want to write it! Not today! But the only way to overcome this obstacle is to just get started. The first few lines after a break are always the hardest.
